PPP Sindh Announces Province-Wide Protests Against India’s Water Policies

Karachi: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh has declared a series of protest rallies across the province against India's alleged "water aggression" and its impact on Pakistan’s water rights under the Indus Water Treaty. The protests, themed "Marsoon Marsoon, Sindhu Na Desoon," are scheduled for Sunday, July 12, and will take place at district headquarters throughout Sindh.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the announcement was made by PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro in a policy statement released on Thursday. Khuhro emphasized the importance of the Indus River to Pakistan and criticized India’s reported unilateral suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, describing it as a violation of international law. He highlighted the treaty's historical significance, noting it was signed in 1960 with the World Bank as mediator to ensure equitable water distribution between the nations.

Khuhro asserted that the suspension of the treaty had been declared illegal by the Court of Arbitration and warned of the potential consequences for regional peace. He stressed that Pakistan's water rights are a legal entitlement and pledged that the PPP would continue to address this issue in all relevant forums to protect the country's water resources.
