Lahore: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Syndicate held its 41st meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, focusing on pivotal decisions regarding academic, administrative, and financial matters.
According to the University of Engineering and Technology, the meeting, which took place at the Chemical Seminar Hall, confirmed the minutes of the previous Senate meeting and reviewed the implementation of its decisions. A significant outcome was the approval of a new Faculty of Computing, consolidating the Department of Computer Science, the Institute of Data Sciences, and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Cyber Security under one framework. Amendments to the marking criteria for appointing Deans and revisions to University Service Statutes were also greenlit.
In alignment with the Higher Education Commission's policy, formal guidelines for appointing Professors of Practice were approved, aiming to involve industry professionals in academic activities. Budget estimates for fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26 received approval, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Munir expressing gratitude for support from various governmental bodies. Additionally, the Syndicate approved a 1 MW solar power system installation at the New Campus to enhance energy efficiency.
The meeting also addressed revised recruitment regulations and confirmed previous meeting proceedings to bolster governance transparency. Elections saw Prof. Dr. Farhat Saleem and Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan join the Syndicate, with Dr. Qaiser Saleem elected to the Finance and Planning Committee. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Munir concluded the session by affirming UET Lahore's dedication to advancing technology and education.
