Pakistan and China Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Ceremony in Islamabad


ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast partnership with China during a ceremony in Islamabad commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The leaders emphasized the enduring nature of the bilateral relationship, likening it to an “Iron Brotherhood” characterized by mutual trust and unwavering support.



According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari addressed the attendees, highlighting the friendship with China as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. The event, attended by notable figures such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, underscored the extensive cooperation between the two countries across various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, and technology.



President Zardari praised the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a transformative initiative and acknowledged China’s consistent support on issues such as the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed pride in being among the first to recognize the People’s Republic of China, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to the One China Policy and the importance of CPEC in economic development.



The ceremony also featured a photo exhibition celebrating the longstanding friendship between the nations, with both leaders unveiling a commemorative postage stamp to mark the occasion. The event concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, highlighting the shared achievements and solidarity of Pakistan and China over the past seven decades.
