Islamabad: In a detailed briefing held under the auspices of the Information Department, Government of Sindh, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), shared insights on the developmental strides made in Sindh over the years. The event, which took place at the President House, was attended by ambassadors, business leaders, and media professionals.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the briefing, titled "Story of the Transformation of Sindh," highlighted achievements in sectors such as health, education, and energy from 2008 to 2025. Bhutto Zardari outlined the increase in the health budget and the expansion of facilities like the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). He emphasized the significant healthcare advancements, noting the international reach and impact of these initiatives.
The education sector's progress was also a focal point, with the number of universities increasing from ten to thirty since 2008. Bhutto Zardari discussed the reduction in the student-teacher ratio and the establishment of new educational institutions and autism centers.
In addressing social protection, he highlighted the success of the Sindh Rural Support Organization in lifting women out of poverty through interest-free loans. The briefing also covered the Sindh government's response to the 2022 floods, including a large-scale housing initiative aimed at providing climate-resilient homes with ownership granted to women.
Economic developments were underscored by the province's achievements in agriculture and infrastructure, including the disbursement of Rs 21 billion to beneficiaries and the construction of roads and canals. Bhutto Zardari also spoke about energy initiatives, particularly in wind and solar power, and the successful public-private partnerships that have spurred economic growth.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari concluded by advocating for the devolution of tax collection to provinces, citing Sindh's success in sales tax collection as evidence of provincial efficacy. He emphasized the importance of incentivizing provinces for their fiscal contributions and called for a reevaluation of fiscal policies to better empower regional governance.
