Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has tasked Pakistan's Ambassador-Designate to Libya, Maj. Gen. (R) Mumtaz Hussain, with the mission of enhancing high-level political engagement and expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Pakistan and Libya. The directive came during a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where the President underscored the importance of bilateral relations.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari highlighted the longstanding cordial ties between Pakistan and Libya, rooted in shared faith and mutual respect. He identified potential areas for increased collaboration, including defence, energy, information technology, healthcare, education, agriculture, and human resource development. The President also advocated for greater interaction between the business communities of the two nations and emphasized the investment opportunities available in Pakistan under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

President Zardari reiterated Pakistan's ongoing support for Libya's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and efforts towards peace and stability. He instructed the Ambassador-Designate to prioritize the welfare of the Pakistani community in Libya and expressed optimism for continued cooperation with Libya at international forums like the United Nations and the OIC on issues such as Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir.

The President extended his best wishes to Maj. Gen. (R) Mumtaz Hussain for a successful tenure and asked him to convey warm greetings to the Libyan leadership and people. Maj. Gen. (R) Hussain stated his commitment to focusing on the welfare of the Pakistani community and boosting bilateral trade with Libya.
