Islamabad: The 15th meeting of the Academic Council of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) took place on September 24, 2025, at the university’s Senate Hall, chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai. The council ratified the minutes from the Boards of the Faculties of Education, Sciences, Information Technology and Management, Business Administration, and Commerce.
Key decisions included adopting new courses aligned with Higher Education Commission guidelines and implementing internships for students after their 5th semester. The council also stressed the significance of research alongside high-quality instruction.
A major development was the approval to form an Industry Advisory Board within the Faculty of Information Technology, accompanied by a policy structure for an Industry Liaison Committee. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring practical relevance for students.
The council appointed Dr. Stephen John and Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan to the University’s Discipline Committee, and Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto and Dr. Syed Asif Ali to the Affiliation Committee.
Dr. Sahrai acknowledged the evolving landscape of higher education, emphasizing the need for universities to adapt to contemporary challenges. He noted the distinct characteristics of today’s digital-age learners, advocating for curriculum and teaching methods that cater to their needs.
Commending SMIU’s faculty for their commitment to quality education, Dr. Sahrai highlighted the institution’s rise as a prominent university in the country. He referenced the recent 5th Convocation, where 367 students received degrees, including SMIU’s first PhD graduate.
Dr. Sahrai also underscored SMIU’s dedication to student support, citing the establishment of the Hashmat Lodi Youth Development Centre, Students Development Fund, and an AI lab. He emphasized the university’s proactive approach to creating employment prospects for its graduates through industry partnerships.
