Harry Brook Sets ODI Record with Fastest Double Century

Rawalpindi: Harry Brook achieved a milestone in ODI cricket by scoring the fastest double century in the history of the format, leading England to a total of 429/4 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. This record-breaking performance surpassed India captain Shubman Gill's previous record and marked the first-ever double ton by an England batter in ODIs.

According to International Cricket Council, Brook's innings of 202 runs from 116 balls surpassed Ben Stokes's previous England record of 182 runs. This achievement provides a significant boost to England as they prepare for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027. The team total of 429/4 is the highest in Men's ODIs played in Pakistan and the fourth-highest for England overall.

England's innings was a comeback effort following a defeat against Pakistan in the tri-series. Tom Banton and Ben Duckett laid a solid foundation with an opening partnership of 74 runs. Brook's partnership with Joe Root and Will Jacks further accelerated the innings. Brook's 21 fours and 10 sixes set a new record for the most runs through boundaries by an England batter in a single ODI innings.

The innings concluded with Brook's dismissal on the final ball by Janith Liyanage. Both England and Sri Lanka are seeking their first victory in the ongoing tri-series, with each team having lost their initial matches against Pakistan.
