Karachi: Usman Shinwari, the left-arm fast bowler who last represented Pakistan in 2019, has announced his retirement from international cricket. Shinwari, who made his debut in 2013, played a total of 34 matches for Pakistan over the course of his career.
The 29-year-old fast bowler began his international journey against Sri Lanka in a T20I match. He later debuted in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket against the same opponent. Over his six-year career span, Shinwari played 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, securing 34 and 13 wickets in each format, respectively.
Shinwari’s only appearance in Test cricket came in December 2019, also against Sri Lanka, which marked his final match for the national team. His most notable performance in ODIs was during his second match, where he achieved a five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in Sharjah. He replicated this feat with another five-wicket haul in 2019, once again against Sri Lanka, during his penultimate ODI game.
Throughout his career, Shinwari was a part of Pakistan’s squad in significant tournaments, including the Asia Cup in 2018. His decision to retire closes a chapter on a promising yet sporadic presence in the international cricket arena.
