Pakistan Unveils Squad for 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup

Lahore: Pakistan has unveiled its 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, revealing a well-balanced team that combines youth and experience. The squad, led by all-rounder Fatima Sana, aims to build on their unbeaten performance at the Qualifier tournament earlier this year.

The selection committee has largely retained the core group that triumphed at the Qualifier event in April, with only two players from that squad, Gull Feroza and Najiha Alvi, not making the cut. New additions include batting talents Eyman Fatima and Sadaf Shamas, both of whom are expected to make significant contributions.

Fatima Sana, who has already demonstrated strong leadership skills, will captain the side. She was the leading wicket-taker in the Qualifier tournament and is expected to play a crucial role with both bat and ball at the World Cup.

Diana Baig, another key player, will spearhead Pakistan’s new-ball attack. Her performance during the Qualifier, where she claimed seven wickets, underscores her importance to the team’s strategy. Her ability to strike early could be pivotal in setting up matches for Pakistan’s spin-heavy bowling attack.

The squad includes six players who will be making their debut at a Women’s World Cup. Among them are Syeda Aroob Shah, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Eyman Fatima, who have previously showcased their skills at the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 Cricket World Cup. Sadia Iqbal, a standout spinner, missed the last World Cup due to injury but is set to be a significant threat to opposing teams.

This strategic blend of seasoned and emerging players is expected to enhance Pakistan’s prospects in the 2025 World Cup, as the team looks to make a mark on the global stage.
