Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), the alma mater of Pakistan’s founder, commemorated the nation’s 78th Foundation Day with a series of events echoing national pride and patriotism. The celebration was marked by a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, along with tributes to historical figures and recent military achievements.
Dr. Sahrai emphasized the university’s historical significance, recalling that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah received his education there 133 years ago. During his speech, he lauded Jinnah’s leadership principles and stressed the importance of understanding individual roles in nation-building.
The Vice Chancellor also paid tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces for their recent victory over India in May 2025. He highlighted the military’s expertise and called on the global community to address the Kashmir issue, urging self-determination for its people.
Dr. Sahrai outlined SMIU’s advancements, noting the creation of a 200 million rupee development fund and a significant increase in student enrollment since 2020. He proudly announced the university’s first PhD graduate and commended efforts leading to a financial turnaround.
The celebration concluded with speeches from faculty members, emphasizing education and poverty eradication, and was complemented by national songs and orchestrated by the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling.
