Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, commemorated the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, emphasizing the enduring legacy of Pakistan’s first directly elected Prime Minister.
In his statement, Bhutto Zardari highlighted the pivotal role Zulfikar Ali Bhutto played in the nation’s recovery following the 1971 conflict. He noted that Bhutto’s leadership was instrumental in stabilizing the country and setting it on a trajectory of progress at a time of despair.
Bhutto Zardari also underscored Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s diplomatic achievements, particularly the negotiation of the Simla Agreement, which led to the return of 90,000 prisoners of war and the reclamation of 5,000 square miles of territory from India.
The statement further acknowledged Bhutto’s impact on Pakistan’s economy, agriculture, and industrial sectors through reforms that empowered the working class. His initiatives in labor and land reforms were credited with providing dignity and ownership to the common man.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised the constitution that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto introduced, which laid the foundation for democracy and fundamental rights in Pakistan. He also highlighted Bhutto’s contributions to nuclear technology, which bolstered national defense, and his foreign policy, which elevated Pakistan’s standing on the global stage.
