President Zardari Advocates for Stricter Measures Against Fake News in Meeting with PEMRA Chairman

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of combating fake news and disinformation during a meeting with Mr. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). The meeting focused on enhancing media integrity and adopting modern technologies to uphold journalistic standards.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari and Chairman Saleem discussed the content of the PEMRA Report for 2021-23, which Saleem presented during their meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The President advocated for the media to foster a culture of fact-checking and verification to prevent the spread of misinformation and to contribute positively to societal values like tolerance and unity.

Further discussions highlighted the need for PEMRA to enhance its capabilities through the use of advanced tools and a skilled workforce. President Zardari expressed his commitment to supporting PEMRA’s efforts to regulate and develop a responsible media landscape in Pakistan.
