Altaf Shakoor Calls for Revival of Student Politics in Pakistan to Counter Economic Challenges

Karachi: Altaf Shakoor, Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, advocated for the revival of student politics in Pakistan, drawing inspiration from Bangladeshi students who played a pivotal role in the political changes in Bangladesh.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor praised the initiative of Bangladeshi students who contributed to the ousting of Dictator Hadina Wazed and proposed the inclusion of economist Muhammad Yunus in the new government. He emphasized the need for local economic experts to lead the country, criticizing the reliance on foreign experts who, he argued, exacerbate the nation’s economic difficulties and deepen the debt burden.

Shakoor also called for the abolition of the rural-urban quota system in Sindh, labeling it as unfair, and pushed for merit-based government recruitments through amendments to ensure public service commissions oversee hiring processes. He stressed the importance of student unions in fostering political engagement and leadership among the youth, urging political parties to revitalize their student wings to drive meaningful change in Pakistan.
