Islamabad: WWF-Pakistan, in collaboration with Serena Hotels, celebrated World Snow Leopard Day with an exhibition titled "The Mountains We Share: People, Snow Leopards and Stories of Coexistence," focusing on conservation efforts and partnerships aimed at protecting the snow leopard, one of Pakistan's iconic species.
According to WWF-Pakistan, the event took place at Serena Hotel Islamabad and gathered representatives from government, diplomatic missions, conservation organizations, and other stakeholders. The exhibition showcased the progress and challenges in snow leopard conservation through photographs, stories, and an illustrated timeline, highlighting efforts from early research to modern technologies like artificial intelligence used in wildlife protection.
The exhibition emphasized the importance of a comprehensive conservation approach that addresses human-wildlife conflict, supports local communities, and strengthens protected-area management to ensure the snow leopard's long-term survival. The event featured speeches from notable figures such as Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Dr. Adil Najam, President of WWF International, among others.
Pakistan, being one of the 12 countries that are home to the snow leopard, highlighted the species' conservation significance beyond its borders. The event stressed the need for continued scientific research, community involvement, and cooperation to safeguard the species and its ecosystem.
The exhibition served as a reminder of the importance of intergenerational conservation efforts, built on shared knowledge and sustained commitment, to protect the snow leopard and the mountain environments upon which both humans and wildlife rely.
