Islamabad, Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, where both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation across several key areas, including economy, trade, energy, connectivity, and cultural exchanges.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the discussions underscored the deep-rooted historical connections between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, with both sides expressing a desire to further enhance these ties. The Acting President proposed making Baku and Multan sister cities to foster closer relations, citing the Multan-Sarai in Baku as a symbol of their long-standing brotherhood.
The meeting highlighted the potential for increased trade and business collaborations between the two countries. The Acting President expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and shared views at various international forums. He emphasized the importance of educational and parliamentary exchanges, as well as improved connectivity to bring the nations closer.
Foreign Minister Bayramov underscored the significance of the bilateral relationship and called for enhanced cooperation in economic, trade, and business sectors. He also noted the importance of increasing connectivity and people-to-people contacts, which he believes will solidify the bilateral ties further.
The discussions also touched on the support of the Government of Azerbaijan for Pakistan regarding the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ and K), for which Acting President Gillani expressed his gratitude.
