Karachi, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, President of the Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan and a prominent neurophysician, has expressed deep concern over the increasing number of epilepsy cases among young people and called for government subsidies on epilepsy medications.
According to Aafia Movement, during a two-day free epilepsy camp in Gulshan e Iqbal organized by the Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan in collaboration with AGP Pharma, Dr. Siddiqui spoke to the media about the troubling trend. She revealed that over 60 percent of the attendees at the medical camp were under 20 years old.
Dr. Siddiqui emphasized that epilepsy, affecting approximately 2.5 percent of the Pakistani population, is a treatable condition, yet marred by societal misconceptions and significant treatment costs. She highlighted the severe financial burden faced by patients, with some needing medications costing between Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 monthly, which are often exacerbated by artificial shortages.
