International Conference on “Ijtihad Balmqasid” Convenes to Address Modern Challenges Through Islamic Jurisprudence

Islamabad, A three-day international conference titled “Ijtihad Balmqasid” was organized by the Department of Thought, Islamic History and Culture at Allama Iqbal Open University. The conference focuses on the use of ijtihad— a traditional Islamic legal tool — to address contemporary issues within the framework of Islamic law.

According to Allama Iqbal Open University, the conference aims to explore the application of ijtihad, which involves making informed legal decisions by considering the purposes of Shariah in the context of modern challenges. This practice, deeply rooted in the ancient traditions of Islamic thought, is increasingly relevant today as scholars and researchers seek to align traditional Islamic jurisprudence with the current needs and issues facing the Muslim community.

The main sources of Islamic law, including the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah, Ijmaa (consensus), Qiyas (analogical reasoning), and Ijtihad, are fundamental in providing solutions that are not only in accord with divine intentions but also beneficial for humanity. The conference highlighted the importance of understanding the objectives of Shariah and using ijtihad to derive laws that serve the general interests of Muslims today.

Participants at the conference include selected researchers, teachers, and research students who were invited to present papers and share insights on the versatile applications of ijtihad. The event serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of how ijtihad can be utilized to solve new problems that have arisen in modern times.
