Jamiat Ulema Islam Leader Criticizes NGOs on Women’s Rights Approach

Karachi, Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, the president of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan and National Solidarity Council, expressed strong views on the state of women’s rights during a speech at the Akbari Takuniya Mosque. He praised the status that Islam has historically accorded to women, contrasting it with what he perceives as the negative influence of some NGOs’ approach to the issue in modern times.

According to Jamiat Ulema Islam, Zubair emphasized that Islam has provided women with genuine rights, including honor and respect, exemplified by the saying that heaven lies under the feet of mothers. He voiced concern over certain NGOs promoting what he termed obscenity and nudity under the guise of women’s rights. Zubair argued that these organizations should instead focus on protection and support for women against injustices such as forced marriages and child labor.

During his address, he urged that actionable steps be taken to free young girls from domestic labor and protect them from exploitation, particularly highlighting the importance of practical measures over conferences and speeches on International Women’s Day. He called for bringing those who oppress women to account, positioning them as antagonists of true Islamic teaching.
