Punjab University Holds Seminar to Commemorate International Women’s Day

Lahore, The Department of Gender Studies at Punjab University, in partnership with the Marie Stops Society, held an international seminar to honor International Women’s Day, convening experts from various fields to discuss gender equality, women’s empowerment, and related challenges. The event brought together a diverse array of voices, including those from journalism, religious leadership, and population welfare, who offered their insights on the strides made in women’s health and education, as well as the journey ahead toward gender parity.

According to University of The Punjab, the seminar featured guest speakers such as Aamir Yousaf from MSS, journalist Salman Abid, religious leader Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Nauman Hamid, Population Welfare Officer Lahore Mr. Mazhar Iqbal, and Professor Dr. Ra’ana Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Gender Studies. The speakers engaged the audience with their perspectives on a variety of issues affecting women globally. Highlighting practical steps toward enhancing women’s roles in society, they touched on the significance of advocacy and policy change in advancing gender equality.

A compelling skit by the students from the Department of Gender Studies underscored the critical need for women’s education and took a strong stand against gender-based violence, serving as a powerful reminder of the societal shifts required to combat such injustices.

The seminar was also marked by a collaborative endeavor between the Marie Stops Society and the Department of Gender Studies, as they signed an MOU, cementing their joint commitment to supporting women’s issues through concerted efforts and shared objectives.

The initiative reflects Punjab University’s dedication to fostering dialogue and action on gender issues, as well as its role as an academic institution in promoting social change and educational development.
