Lahore, Industry experts at the Information Technology career fair have forecasted that Pakistan’s IT companies, specializing in services and products, are set to contribute a substantial $3.1 billion to the economy in 2024. The career fair, marking its 13th iteration, was organized by the Punjab University Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) and received sponsorship from Dubizzle Labs. The event saw participation from over 65 leading software industry companies, aiming to recruit graduates from a pool of around 500 students with backgrounds in computer science, software engineering, and information technology.
According to University of The Punjab, the fair provided a pivotal platform for students to connect with potential employers and explore career opportunities. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, alongside FCIT Dean Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, faculty members, and a significant number of students, attended the ceremony. Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood emphasized the collective responsibility to navigate Pakistan out of its current crises, lauding the event’s role in offering prime career opportunities to students.
The career fair also highlighted scholarships and entrepreneurship, with additional stalls set up by various university offices dedicated to alumni relations, placement, career counseling, skill development, and business incubation. Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar highlighted FCIT’s commitment to impacting the global software market by delivering quality IT education and producing skilled graduates who occupy key positions in both multinational and national IT companies.
The event facilitated direct interactions between FCIT graduates and the recruitment executives of participating companies, who conducted interviews, recruitment tests, and shared insights into technological trends and job opportunities. Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar expressed gratitude towards the faculty for their dedication to quality education and thanked Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood for his support, which is instrumental in FCIT’s growth and success.
