Lahore, Dr. Jeanette Forbes, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce designated Ambassador to Pakistan, visited Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to explore opportunities for academic and research collaboration between Scotland and Pakistan.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the visit, facilitated by LUMS alum Mr. Arsalan Ijaz Anwer, CEO of Taar Group and representative of the Pakistan UK Business Council (FPCCI), aimed to assess the potential for knowledge exchange and talent development. Joining Dr. Forbes were other members from the Taar Group, including Mr. Atif Raza, Director; Syed Zain Ul Hassan, Project Director; Mr. Mehtab Asghar, Head of Technology; Ms. Sana Mehwish, Project Manager; and Ms. Mishaal Malik, Business Manager.
Dr. Forbes, an Aberdeen native and Founder of PCL Group, is an OBE recipient for her contributions to business, technology, and charity. With her extensive experience in the Oil and Gas and Technology sectors, she has been a vocal advocate for women in STEM careers and serves on various government boards to enhance Scotland’s digital capabilities.
The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost of LUMS; Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement; and faculty members from the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. The meeting featured presentations and discussions on various topics.
Dr. Forbes shared her experiences and emphasized the importance of education and training for advancement. She expressed her honor in representing Scotland and her enthusiasm for potential collaborations between the two countries.
Ms. Kamran gave an overview of LUMS, highlighting the university’s growth, global accolades, and the National Outreach Programme aimed at making education accessible across Pakistan. Dr. Momin Uppal, Dr. Mian Muhammad Awais, Dr. Shafay Shamail, Dr. Muhammad Hamad Alizai, and Mr. Zain Murtaza Maken also participated, discussing their respective fields and initiatives.
Dr. Uppal, Director of the Centre for Urban Informatics, Technology, and Policy (CITY), shared the centre’s goals in addressing urban mobility issues, sustainable development, and constructing resilient urban areas. Mr. Maken briefed the guests on LUMSx, a project for creating online and blended learning experiences to transform teaching and learning at LUMS and beyond.
This meeting opened avenues for future collaboration in knowledge exchange, talent development, and digital transformation, reflecting both parties’ commitment to education and innovation.
The visit provided Dr. Forbes a comprehensive understanding of LUMS’ advanced research and academic efforts, showcasing the university’s dedication to innovation and academic excellence.
