Karachi, The Virtual University of Pakistan celebrated the second phase of its 13th Convocation today at the M.A. Jinnah Campus, Defence Road, Off Raiwind Road, Lahore. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Tajdar Alam (T.I.), Former Managing Director of VUTV, as the chief guest, and Prof. Dr. Masroor Elahi Baber, Former Vice-Chancellor of Agricultural University D. I. Khan and Gomel University, as the Guest of Honor.
According to Virtual University of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (S.I., T.I.), the Rector of Virtual University, delivered an insightful address on the university’s crucial role in national development. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to education in underdeveloped areas, particularly in Balochistan, highlighting their focus on providing educational opportunities in the most needed areas of Pakistan.
Dr. Bhatti proudly announced the international recognitions Virtual University has recently received, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and the achievement of being ranked in the Top 5% of Cisco Premier Partners.
During the Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 semesters, a total of 22,762 students became eligible for various degrees, including Associate Degrees, B.Ed., Bachelor (2-year), BS (4-year), Masters, and MS degrees. In Lahore, 4,977 degrees were conferred. The convocation also saw the distribution of 110 Gold Medals and 277 Merit Certificates, with 33 Gold Medals and 62 Merit Certificates awarded in Lahore.
Dr. Tajdar Alam spoke about the university’s impressive growth from a single room to over 200 campuses nationwide, serving more than 130,000 students. He lauded the students for choosing Virtual University for its superior IT knowledge and self-learning capabilities. Dr. Alam also commended Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti for his exceptional leadership in transforming VU into a leading ICT-based university in Pakistan.
