Karachi, – The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Ihsaas Trust have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide support to marginalized youths and unemployed graduates. The partnership focuses on offering microfinance loans for training and job placement as Medical Sales Representatives, both in local and international markets.
According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between skills and employment in the pharmaceutical sector. This collaboration is aligned with DUHS’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8, which focuses on decent work and economic growth. The program targets young people, particularly from less affluent families, offering them access to specialized job opportunities in pharmaceutical sales.
The program management and operations, including course structure finalization, class management, faculty scheduling, coordination, provision of course materials, and quality assurance, will be overseen by DUHS. This ensures that the education provided is of high quality and meets the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. The initiative is expected to create a pool of knowledgeable medical representatives ready to meet the demands of the sector. Moreover, it offers financial support to young people from underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue careers in the pharmaceutical industry.
The MoU also highlights the importance of equipping unemployed graduates with the necessary skills to either secure employment or start their own startups after completing a three-month training course. The presence of Muhammad Farhan Khan, Manager of Dow Skill Development Centre, and Professor Izhar Hussain, Director of the Dow Institute of Business and Health Management (IBHM), at the signing ceremony underscores the significance of this collaboration in addressing the skill-employment gap in the healthcare sector.
