Karachi, Two faculty members from the Aga Khan University (AKU) have achieved global recognition by being ranked among the world’s top scientists for 2023 by Stanford University. This ranking included a total of 187 scientists from Pakistan, with AKU’s Professor Zulfiqar A. Bhutta leading as the top Pakistani scientist and Dr. Salim Virani securing a prominent ninth place.
According to The Aga Khan University revealed that Dr. Bhutta is a distinguished university professor and the Founding Director of the Institute for Global Health and Development, as well as the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health at AKU. Dr. Virani is the Vice-Provost (Global Research) and holds the Nizar E. Noor Mohammed Mewawalla Endowed Professorship at the university.
The Stanford University ranking covers 22 scientific domains and 174 subfields and uses the Science-Metrix classification system. The inclusion of 76 universities from Pakistan in the list underscores the country’s growing influence in global scientific research. The rankings reflect AKU’s commitment to research excellence and its role in fostering an environment conducive to scientific advancement and innovation.
