ICC Mourns the Passing of Former India Captain Bishan Bedi

Dubai, The International Cricket Council (ICC) has publicly conveyed its sorrow over the demise of former India captain and spin legend, Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away at 77.

According to a news release by International Cricket Council (ICC), Chief Executive Geoff Allardice highlighted Bedi’s exceptional skills and his legacy in the world of cricket. In his statement, Allardice said, “It’s sad to hear of the passing of Bishan Bedi. I would like to extend heartfelt condolences from everyone at the ICC to the family of one of the greats of the game and one whose exploits in Test cricket will be remembered for a long time. He was the kind of spinner who could excel in different conditions and would have been one of the greats in any era.”

Bishan Bedi’s illustrious career includes his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. He secured 266 wickets in 67 Test matches from 1967 to 1979, boasting 14 instances of five-wicket hauls. Even in the One Day International format, which was nascent during his playing years, he managed to claim seven wickets in 10 matches. Apart from his international achievements, Bedi also left an indelible mark in first-class cricket, accumulating 1,560 wickets for teams such as Delhi, Northern Punjab in India, and Northamptonshire in England. Moreover, under his captaincy, India secured six Test victories, including remarkable wins in the West Indies and Australia.
