Punjab University Highlights Youth Mental Health and Digital Use Concerns on World Mental Health Day

Lahore, 10 Oct 2023:In a committed initiative to draw attention to pertinent issues related to mental health, particularly amidst the youth, the Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) orchestrated an awareness walk, marking World Mental Health Day. According to a press release from the Punjab University (PU), the event encompassed faculty members and students who established various stalls across the university, ensuring the dissemination of critical information pertaining to mental health, with a distinct emphasis placed upon the escalating concerns related to digital platform use among the youth.

On this significant occasion, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Director of CCP Dr. Saima Dawood, along with various faculty members and students made their presence felt, asserting their dedication toward enhancing awareness about mental health in the academic milieu. In his address, Dr. Khalid Mahmood pinpointed the pervasive impact of digital platforms on the mental health of young individuals, highlighting a burgeoning sense of frustration stemming from intensive use of mobiles and laptops, which in turn, is propagating a palpable distance within family structures. He underscored the imperative role psychologists need to perform in this context, advocating a proactive approach toward mitigating the ensuing psychological challenges.

Dr. Saima Dawood echoed a commitment from CCP to persistently enlighten the public about various psychological issues and proactively engage in elucidating accessible treatment avenues. She, along with the faculty members, visited the erected awareness stalls, commending the concerted efforts of the students in bringing mental health concerns to the forefront, thereby aiding in dissipating essential knowledge and understanding about mental health issues and wellness.
