Bahawalpur, September 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): According to directives from the Punjab government, various activities are going on in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in connection with the anti-dengue campaign. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Medical and Health Care, State Care and Directorate of Outreach, Communication and Public Relations have started various activities. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Usman Cheema has said that various activities have been started in connection with the anti-dengue campaign in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
He said that the initial symptoms of dengue fever include severe fever and body pain due to loss of appetite and pain behind the eyes that spread to the other side of the head. Such spots appear on the body, which appears in measles. There is difficulty in breathing, and the patient goes into a state of shock due to severe abdominal pain in addition to pallor. The patient should be given plenty of juice, soup, and milk along with a normal diet and should be provided complete rest. Dr. Muhammad Latif Principal Officer State Care said that regarding preventive measures in this regard two to three times a week at homes, offices and shops should be cleaned and sprayed with mosquito repellents.
Dengue mosquito breeds in clean water, so clean water collection vessels such as pitchers, drums, tanks, etc. should be properly covered. Today is the season of using room coolers, so whenever they are not in use, water should be removed from them.
Coils, mats, lotions, and mosquito nets should also be used to prevent mosquitoes. Do not allow water to accumulate in roofs, plant beds, pots, old pots, and tires inside the houses. Meanwhile, cleaning and spraying arrangements are being made in all teaching and administrative departments, hostels, and colonies. During the rainy season, all the places where water can stand are being closed. Water containers and water tanks, etc. are being covered. Special instructions have been issued to prevent spillage of water from room coolers, air conditioners, and refrigerators. Sanitation staffs have been instructed not to allow water to accumulate in case of rain, to clean roofs and arrange for disposal of garbage should be prevented, and the pots should be kept clean.
Anti-dengue sprays and fogging are arranged in the artificial lakes located in the University for feeding dengue lava fish or sprinkling of appropriate drugs. Water should not be allowed to collect in construction materials and old tires, etc. Similarly, the sewage system is also being kept functional. All possible dengue-breeding sites are being regularly monitored.
