Exclusive Session on Trading Futures at PMEX – 8th May, 2023

Karachi, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): Management Sciences Department of DSU in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations organized an exclusive session on ‘Trading Futures at PMEX’ by Mr. Zaki-ur-Rehman, Head of Business at Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX). The session was held at DSU’s Auditorium on Monday, 8th May 2023, and in attendance were 150+ finance cluster students of Management Sciences. Ms. Tehseen Azhar, Director of Alumni Relations and Senior Lecturer MS, Mr. Muhammad Waqas, Senior Lecturer MS, Ms. Subeika Rizvi, Senior Lecturer MS, Mr. Muhammad Akbar Saeed, Senior Lecturer MS, Ms. Saima Sardar Khan, Dir. SSCC and Lecturer MS, Ms. Erum Fatima, Lecturer MS, and Mr. Azam Anwar, Lecturer MS, attended the session along with their respective classes.

Mr. Zaki-ur-Rehman, provided a brief introduction of PMEX, its functioning and the existing and upcoming products available for trading. He enlightened the students regarding the benefits of this platform and how they can leverage it to start earning with a minimum amount of investment. PMEX will also be training final year finance students of MS Dept. on their premises and will also offer internships to the selected students that will lead to full time jobs based on the performance. At the end of this highly interactive session, Pro-VC, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas, presented a memento to Mr. Zaki-ur-Rehman on behalf of DSU as a token of thanks.

A Comprehensive Legislative Framework for Indigenous Digital Culture stressed in Faculty of Education’s Conference

Islamabad, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): Participants of a two-day International conference on “transition of traditional universities to online mode” organized by Directorate of Distance Learning Faculty of Education of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) have called for developing a comprehensive legislative framework for indigenous digital culture. They opined that teachers should be fully equipped with the digital skills to create collaborative learning environment in online distance learning mod of education.

In this conference that was held here at the Faisal Masjid Campus, the participants recommended that using the best of traditional and online instruction to develop a better future for higher education, four level competencies are important for media literacy including media knowledge, media analysis, media critics and media creation. The conference experts and speakers also agreed that universities need a three-pronged approach across strategy, policy and pedagogy to identify the right hybrid model for their institution and students. They suggested to combine outcome based education with e- learning and observe students behaviours and their interaction styles using Learning Management System, and provide insights on their progress.

In the conference, participants addressed the emerging issues and challenges in the distance education and e-learning. Renowned national and international academicians and researchers expressed views on the ultimate possibilities and guidelines for the maximum role of distance education and e-learning in the national development.

More than 300 researchers, keynote speakers, educationists, experts are participating and it will witness around 70 papers from the presenters hailing from Austria, USA, Lebanon and Pakistan who will participate in conference physically and through online mode.

The participants discussed adaptation to new technologies, best practices in online learning, blended learning, communication challenges in e- learning during covid-19, e-learning strategies, evaluation in online learning, future of online learning for universities, learning management systems, needs and challenges of online learning and research models and paradigms in online learning.

Addressing the concluding ceremony as Chief Guest, Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) said that after the pandemic, the education has a new landscape and online teaching and learning has emerged as the leading mode of learning. He said there are challenges in the country when we talk about ODL that can be catered and it can pave the way towards easy and quality education. He elaborated the scope and programs of PSF and offered maximum support for such initiatives and conferences.

He also called for increasing the spending on the science and technology mentioning that things have started to get better through support of government. He stressed upon launching competitive research programs hoping that HEC and universities will keep contributing in best manner in this regards. The concluding ceremony of the conference was also attended by Acting President, Professor Dr Nabi Bux Jumani.

Professor Dr. Samina Malik, Vice President Female Campus said in her address that education makes the fate of nations, the transition in education because of technology has changed the landscape of learning. She added that distance learning, blended learning and online modes have proved that online mode is one of the best models for teaching and learning. She opined that future belongs to the online learning, yet we still have a long way to go as there are many challenges in the country to acquire, learn and implement these technologies. She said there are many challenges such as accessibility of internet. She also highlighted the importance of assessment factor in the teaching and learning in the online modes.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education thanked the IIUI management and collaborators for the support in organizing the two-day conference. He also highlighted the importance of transition towards ODL. Dr. Asmatullah Khan, Director Directorate of Distance Learning, Dean computing IIUI in his vote of thanks hailed the cooperation of the collaborators and thanked for active participation of national and international speakers and participants. Earlier, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, focal person presented the report and recommendation of the conference. She told that more than 30 universities are participated in this conference through participants and speakers.

The International speakers included Prof. Dr. Thomas Alfred Bauer (University of Vienna, Austria), Prof. Dr Victoria S. Brown Professor of Teaching and Learning Florida Atlantic University USA, Prof. Maha R. Sourani (Lebanese University Lebanon) and Ms Ramya Srinivasan (Customer Success Director Coursera) joined virtually. IIUI Student Delegation participates in International Parliamentary Convention at National Assembly

Islamabad, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): A delegation of International Islamic University (IIU) students participated in the International Parliamentary Convention to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that was titled as “My constitution- guarantee of my freedoms”. It was organized by National Assembly of Pakistan Parliament House, Islamabad.

The two-day event was a remarkable gathering of lawmakers, scholars, and dignitaries from across the world. The IIUI delegation met with foreign delegates and had an opportunity to learn and discuss legislative matters and legal system of various countries. The house witnessed discussions on the significance of Pakistan’s constitution and its role in shaping the country’s democratic journey.

In this program, participants discussed challenges of the constitutional democracies, adaption of constitutional structure in the challenging times, emerging technologies and fundamental laws of countries. The students termed this participation as valuable opportunity to broaden their exposure and thanked the University for providing this constructive opportunity. They also appreciated the cooperation and coordination of the office of the Protocol and Public Relations.

The seminar was divided in the parallel breakout sessions as well on the important topics of federalism and devolution of powers, constitution and representation, a legal frame work for global responsibility and climate justice and building inclusive and equal societies.

Department of Economics, IUB organized its first Alumni Reunion function

Bahawalpur, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Department of Economics the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized its first ever Alumni Reunion event in collaboration with the Directorate of Alumni Affairs. This networking event was attended by 100 alumni of the Economics Department who are working at various public and private institutes.

Dr. Abid Rasheed Gill Chairman Department of Economics and Dr. Azhar Hussain Director Alumni Affairs welcomed the alumni of the department on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Engr. DHQ Hospital in Badin Celebrates the International Nurses Day and Midwives Day

Karachi, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): The International Nursing Day and Midwives Day ceremony was held today at the DHQ Hospital Badin, where nursing staff and healthcare professionals gathered to celebrate the contributions of nurses to healthcare delivery. The event was graced by the presence of the Director of Nursing Services Indus Hospital and Health Network Karachi Ms. Rashida Merchant, along with Senior Manager of Nursing Services Rozina Shazad Ramji and Head of Campus DHQ Badin Dr. Mohammad Akhlaque Khan. The highlight of the event was a poster competition, where nursing staff showcased their creativity and talent. The competition witnessed an overwhelming response, with participants highlighting the importance of nursing in healthcare delivery.

At the end of the competition, Hajiani Sharifa emerged as the first prize winner, and Mansoor Latif was awarded the second prize. Both winners were awarded gold and silver medals, respectively, for their outstanding work. The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, where all speakers paid tribute to the nurses for their invaluable services to the healthcare sector. The speakers highlighted the importance of nurses in providing quality healthcare and acknowledged the hard work and dedication of nurses in ensuring the well-being of patients.

The Nursing and Midwives staff at DHQ Hospital Badin are an inspiration to all, and it is hoped that the event will encourage and motivate them to continue their excellent work in providing quality healthcare to patients in the years to come. The International Nursing Day ceremony was an excellent opportunity to recognize the contributions of nurses to healthcare delivery and to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

Food Insecurity: 71% Pakistanis report that they or someone in their family suffered from food shortages: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 71% Pakistanis report that they or someone in their family suffered from food shortages.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country, was asked the question “Have you or someone in your family suffered from food shortages?” In response, 46% said yes, often, 28% said not at all, 25% said yes, sometimes and 1% did not respond or said they did not know.
