Lahore, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): Our bi-annual flagship event, COMSATS Projects and Careers Expo – CPCE for SPRING 2023 scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 at CUI, Islamabad Campus. CUI has (07) physical campuses across the country and has over 12,000 students at Islamabad Campus. At CPCE, graduating students will be exhibiting their Final Year Projects, organizations will have an opportunity to conduct on spot interviews / hiring of students for jobs / internships where separate interview rooms will be provided to all registered organizations.

It is a one-day event without any registration charges. The event will also incorporate a Working Lunch to interact with faculty members of various disciplines to explore and discuss possibilities of mutual collaboration for research, training, potential projects and current industrial trends.

NUMS Department of Public Health – School Health Services Session: Awareness Regarding “Good Hygiene Practices and Assessment of Nutritional Status of Students”

Rawalpindi, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): NUMS Department of Public Health takes keen interest in equipping students with practical knowledge of the field in addition to their academics at the institute. With reference to the memorandum signed last year between the Integrated Health Services (IHS) and NUMS Department of Public Health, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), a group of students from NUMS Public Health Department took part in a week-long certificate course on School Health Services. In continuation of this course the students decided to effectively utilize the knowledge and experience gained by conducting similar awareness sessions in different educational Institutes with the aim of creating a healthier community.

In accordance with SDG no 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG no 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) the students of the NUMS Department of Public Health conducted an awareness session regarding “Good Hygiene Practices and Assessment of Nutritional Status of Students” in ROOTS International School, PWD Rawalpindi on 17th April 2023. The session started with brief talk on topics particularly concept of food plate, importance of physical activity, hand washing technique and personal hygiene practices. Children participated in activities like river bank and matching cards for junk and healthy food. Clean vs unclean hands sanitation practices for germs transmission of the school were also carried out by the students to practically apply the learnt information. In the second session to assess the nutritional status BMI was calculated by taking weight and height measurement of all the participants through applying standardized methods.

The school administration appreciated and acknowledged the efforts of the students of NUMS Department of Public Health for conducting such an interactive session on an important health issue. The coordinators of this important activity were Dr Tamkeen Nishat Jaffry; Associate Professor Public Health and Ms Rubab Zulfiqar; Lecturer Public Health. Four to Five students from each Batch of BSPH participated in this activity in a well-coordinated manner. Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Uzma Hassan, appreciated the initiative taken by the NUMS Department of Public Health. She also motivated the students to carry on with their efforts aimed at making this community more educated and healthier with better informed choices.

IBA faculty co-authored a working paper exploring the politics of infrastructure development in Asia’s hinterlands

Anwar, Professor of City and Regional Planning, School of Economics and Social Sciences, IBA Karachi, and Director, Karachi Urban Lab (KUL), co-authored a working paper titled ‘Fast-Tracking Pakistan’s Grid Modernity- exploring the politics of infrastructure development in Asia’s hinterlands’. The SSRC workshop InterAsian Connections VI: Hanoi Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), featured the initial presentation of this working paper.

All-party delegation/VC Turbat University meeting

Turbat, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): A delegation of All Parties KACH visited Turbat University on Friday and discussed with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. John Muhammad on the issue of four rusticated students who repeatedly violated the university’s discipline. This delegation included Mir Hamal Baloch, Wajah Ghulam Yasin and Mishkoor Anwar. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Registrar Ganzar Baloch, Dean Academics Dr. Adeel Ahmed, Director QEC Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, Director Arch Dr. Ghulam Jan, Principal of University Model School Ms. Mehnaz Bashir and Director Student Affairs Mr. Muzaffar Hussain were also present on this occasion. The Vice-Chancellor and other senior officials of the University expressed their serious concern to the visiting delegation that some students have been continuously disrupting the academic environment of the University by repeatedly stopping the University buses and blocking the main gate and even Misbehaving with the teachers and staff of the university.

Of all parties The delegation acknowledged the students’ mistakes and assured that the four students are ready to apologize and will respect the university’s discipline and student code of conduct in the future. The delegation further said that these students will not do any illegal activities inside the university in future. Later, the rusticated students appeared before the Disciplinary Committee and tendered a sincere apology to the members of the Disciplinary Committee and the teachers of the university. The delegation of all the visiting parties submitted a written undertaking as guardians of the students that they will not engage in any illegal activities in future and will fully abide by the discipline and rules of the university.

The Disciplinary Committee of the University agreed to review its previous decision in accordance with the disciplinary rules on the appeal of the students and the written assurance of the delegation and with the unanimous consent of all the members, the sentence of revocation was changed to probation. Now own them Resumption of classes will be permitted provided they do not violate the University’s discipline in future, otherwise they will be subject to major penalties including cancellation of admission and others as per the University’s discipline and rules. Legal action may be involved. The visiting delegation thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and other officials of the university for reviewing their decision and resolving the issue amicably and appreciated their academic friendliness. Finally, it was agreed to continue coordination and cooperation for the development of the university and maintaining a conducive academic environment.

Green Youth Movement Club organizes a cleanliness drive at Turbat University

Turbat, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): The HEC-driven Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club of the University of Turbat (UoT) organized a cleanliness drive at the main campus of the university on 12th May 2023. Students from different departments of the university participated in the cleanliness drive with the aim to promote a healthy environment on campus. The students were divided into six teams according to the target locations for trash collection. The teams collected the trashes around the campus and filled it in trash bags for disposal of the trashes and waste. After that, the cohort holding hand-made banners and posters organized an awareness walk at the campus.

The walk was led by Dr. Niamatullah, Assistant Professor, Natural and Basic Science Department, and Mr. Jeand Baloch focal person of the GYM club. The organizers said that the outcome of this drive was not only a tidy-up of the campus, but it also helped raise awareness about the significance of a clean environment and also provided a platform for the students of the entire university to work for a healthy environment. This huge outcome was a result of the efforts made by faculty, students, and the GYM cabinet of the university under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad.
