Communication and Design Program at Habib University – A Unique Combination of Skill-based Practical Training

Karachi, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):

High Quality Student Experience

Choosing a career path in media can be daunting, as family and friends may question your decision. But if your passion for the field burns brightly, rest assured that choosing a media-related degree will be one of the best decisions you ever make.

This is particularly true if you choose a program like the Communication and Design Program at Habib University, where the curriculum is designed to be student-centered and engaging, making the journey of discovering your passion for media an enjoyable and fulfilling one, just like it was for me.

Even though 99% of me wants to go for the design side of the program, the remaining 1% would love to experience the acting workshops, screenwriting, theatres, radio shows, movie productions, clubs and cabinets dedicated to the communication side. Well, here is the plot twist when I tell you that this is possible here at Habib University, a place that enables me to enjoy both aspects of my degree, leaving 100% of me satisfied with no regrets!

Different Programs, Single Degree

This all sounds too good to be true even for a design student but a reality for all my media enthusiasts out there. You might be wondering why I am referring to design and communication as different programs despite it being a single degree; it is because in the last two years, Habib University restructured the program and split it into two, making one of them a priority over the other according to what you want to focus more on. That does not mean you do not get to study the other, but you have one as a primary concentration and the other as a secondary concentration.

Gaining Hands-on Experience

Not only is this about the studies but also about gaining hands-on experience with all the cameras, lighting, scripting, stage sets, art direction, green rooms, creative direction, casts and even directing or producing short films, music videos, documentaries, etc. I might also start running a radio show with my friend group alongside or work in Habib’s Communication and Design Productions (CND Productions) as one of the above-mentioned roles.

Lastly, you do not need any prior experience for this, I had none. Trust me I am someone who switched my whole plan after getting to know about this degree during Covid-19 and had no experience but now I am in my sophomore year knowing more than I expected to know and even working internships alongside.

Special thanks to all the highly qualified and friendly faculty present to help, guide, and teach me, which makes the journey so much more worthwhile, and my time at Habib University like I said, is 100% worth it!

Do not miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to kick-start your career in media, apply now for the admissions fall 2023. For more information regarding Communication and Design Program, visit, https://habib.edu.pk/academics/ahss/comm-design/.

German Red Cross with PRCS distributed relief items to 32000 flood-affected families in Sindh

Karachi, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):The monsoon rains have caused widespread damage, leaving thousands of people homeless and in need of urgent assistance. Frequent rains have caused rivers and canals to overflow, leading to the displacement of thousands of people, damage to homes and infrastructure, and loss of crops and livelihoods.

The floods have affected various regions in Pakistan, including all the major provinces. Many communities have been cut off from basic necessities, and even though months have passed, the situation still remains dire. The government and various aid organizations are working tirelessly to provide relief and assistance to those affected. However, the scale of the disaster is overwhelming, and more support is desperately needed.

Pakistan Red Crescent Society Sindh Provincial branch with the assistance of the German Red Cross provided relief assistance with food items, Kitchen sets and Hygiene kits to 32,300 families. This assistance was provided to most flood-affected families in Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Nowshehro Feroz, Dadu, Jamshoro, Larkana, and Khairpur Districts.

In general German Red Cross supported 46,200 families across the country. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 10,650 families were given relief items while in Punjab we helped 3,250 households. A significant portion of relief items was given to 32,300 families in the worst-hit areas of Sindh Province.

The Food Package that was distributed by the German Red Cross consisted of wheat flour 20 kg, basmati rice 15 kg, pulses 5 kg, red beans 2 kg, ghee/ cooking oil 3 kg/ltr, sugar 3.5 kg black tea 0.5 kg and salt 1 kg. This food package was distributed along with the kitchen set with 01 Jug, 01 Ladle, 07 Spoons, 01 Kettle, 01 Cooking Pot, 01 Pacification, 07 Dishes, and 07 Glasses.

This Food package was tailored to fulfil the needs of an average 6 persons family for 15 days. Apart from the food, another concern was to help people counter the unhygienic conditions that were causing widespread diseases among the flood-affected communities.

Our team made sure to provide awareness on the use of hygiene products, for this purpose we conducted 877 Hygiene Promotion Sessions among the communities throughout the country. After the Hygiene Session, we provided hygiene kits to the families.

The Hygiene Kits were customized to support the needs of an average household, consisting of 6 towels, 3 plastic combs, 12 body soaps, 6 laundry soaps, 2 kinds of toothpaste, 6 toothbrushes, 1 scissor, 2 nail clippers, 6 underwear, Menstruation 9×3 hygiene pads, 6 hygiene razors.
