A three-day festival organized by IUB Performing Arts Society, Directorate of Students Affairs 

Bahawalpur, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):A three-day festival was organized by Islamia University Bahawalpur Performing Arts Society and Directorate of Students Affairs. The chief guest of the festival was Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

In the biggest festival of the year organized in Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the students showed their performances through dramatic sketches. On this occasion, the students enlightened the audience about various social problems in a dramatic manner. Music, regional dance, Saraiki Jhomar and Atan of Gilgit were well performed in the festival.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Abdul Wajid Khan Advisor Performing Arts Society said that the purpose of this festival was to highlight the talents of students. He said that the University Performing Arts Society is providing a platform to the students which plays an important role in building and nurturing the personality, ability, confidence of the students of Islamia University Bahawalpur.

PhD open defense at Department of Islamic Studies 

Bahawalpur, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Islamic Studies, Islamia University Bahawalpur PhD Scholar Muhammad Madani Open Defense of Research Paper on 26 December 2022, 10 am, Conference Room, It will be held at the Faculty of Islamic Learning, Baghdad Al-Jadeed Campus. The said scholar completed his research paper under the supervision of Dr. Hafiz Sultan Mehmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Quranic Studies, and Islamia University, Bahawalpur.

Alumni Return to LUMS to Celebrate Homecoming 2022

Lahore, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):It was an evening of nostalgia and celebration as LUMS welcomed back its alumni from around the world at the annual Homecoming on December 17, 2022. Classmates could be seen reconnecting with each other, recalling their time spent at LUMS, sharing updates about their lives, and making new memories to cherish.

The evening began with a video on the University’s major highlights, including the international accolades and recognition it has garnered. These include being ranked the 50th in the ‘World’s Best Small Universities’ by Times Higher Education 2021, as well as the three awards by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education based in Washington.

Rector, Mr. Shahid Hussain, welcoming the alumni, spoke about the importance of maintaining a connection with one’s alma mater, “It is always a pleasure to interact with you and find out more about your success and your progress. The connection between you and LUMS is strong, but it needs to be continuously strengthened through your support.”

Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, said that the 17,000 alumni spread across the world are the University’s ambassadors. “I have heartfelt appreciation and admiration for the work that you do and the standards that you keep on raising higher,” he said.

Lauding the generosity of the alumni towards giving back to LUMS, especially to the Give a Day to LUMS campaign, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director of Advancement, said, “Through your support, we were able to fund the education of many students and transforming the lives of those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds,” she said.

Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali also interacted with the alumni and welcomed them back to their home, “The future of LUMS is in your hands. You must come forward, give us new ideas, and support us so that students who have the ability to get into LUMS but do not have the resources to pay the tuition fees and living expenses, you have to support LUMS in continuing its journey of creating new opportunities and successes.”

The Vice Chancellor’s Alumni Achievement Awards (VC AAA) winners were also announced. This year’s cohort includes alumni who have made a mark in academia, are leading global organisations, spearheading social change in Pakistan, and making LUMS proud on an international scale. The evening ended with a charged performance by the ultimate bhangra band, UK Sahara. The evening was made possible due to the support of generous sponsors, PepsiCo, and Lahore Smart City.

Farmer’s Rehabilitation under Tameer e Wattan Program

Lahore, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Heavy rainfall earlier this year in the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh caused mass flooding in August which led to a natural catastrophe. Millions of people found themselves homeless and helpless, and in darkness. During this time, Alkhidmat foundation by the will of God became their hope. Construction, food and water provision, medical facilities provision campaigns were launched.

The non-profit organization continues its work even after many months to make sure to help. One of its most recent campaigns has been the Tameer e Wattan program which includes the farmer rehabilitation project. The floods have devastated the farmers in these provinces as their crops and lands were destroyed by the disaster.

Through this difficult time for them, Alkhidmat foundation has provided maximum assistance. These activities include the provision of pesticides, fertilizers, seeds and crop medicines in different cities and districts. For instance, fifty farmers in Quetta were provided with these, Aftab Ahmed was given help with his five acre of land crops that swept away in front of his eyes. In Qila Saifullah, 100 flood effected farmers were provided with seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.

In Pishin and Dera Ghazi Khan agricultural products were provided to a hundred farmers. Furthermore, seeds worth 10 million Rs, pesticides and fertilizers were distributed in Badin, Sindh. Another 10 million Rs worth of the inputs were distributed in district tando Mohammad khan. Moreover, 50 farmers in Panjgur Balochistan were given assistance. 25m Rs worth of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides were distributed in Umerkot, Sindh and 15 million Rs worth of the inputs were distributed Thatta.

According to the statistics, 5863 flood affected have been provided by the Alkhidmat foundation due to the countless donations from generous people all over the country. Thus, continue to donate to the foundation through the website because none of it is wasted or is in vain, because the organisation makes sure that all the donations are always used to help the ones suffering.

PCB announces star-studded commentary panel for New Zealand tour 

Karachi, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Cricket Board has unveiled a star-studded commentary panel for the two ICC World Test Championship fixtures and three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches between Pakistan and New Zealand starting 26 December.

Bazid Khan, Chris Harris, Danny Morrison (ODIs only), Scott Styris (second test and ODIs), Simon Doull (Tests only), Urooj Mumtaz and Waqar Younis will call action during New Zealand’s historic tour. Sikander Bakht will host the pre- and post-match show, Pitch Side, which will provide the viewer’s in-depth analysis of the action.

Twenty-seven full high-definition cameras – including buggy cam – will beam the action around the world and complete Hawkeye review system will be available for the two series.

The two sides will play the first Test at the National Bank Cricket Arena from 26 December. They will travel to Multan for the second Test (3-7 January). These two matches are Pakistan’s final assignment in the ICC World Test Championship. Pakistan and New Zealand will travel back to Karachi for the three ODIs – on 10, 12 and 14 January.

IOC OS Seminar for Athlete’s Education and Leadership on 23-25 December 2022 at Pakistan Olympic House, Lahore

Lahore, December 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):We are delighted to inform that from 23rd to 25th December, 2022 IOC OS Seminar for Athlete’s Education and Leadership will be organized at Pakistan Olympic House, Lahore.

Forty (40) athletes from various sports will attend the Seminar wherein sessions will be held on the subjects of Doping Control and ADEL, Rights and Responsibilities of Athletes, Presentation on Manipulation, Fair play and Good Governance in Sports, Gender Equality, Presentation on Harassment and Abuse in Sports, Prevention of Injuries in Sports. This seminar has been designed to facilitate and encourage athlete to conduct the Group Work and Panel Discussions shall be organized by inviting the experts on the subject topics.

This seminar is the reiteration of the POA’s resolve to educate athletes as they will be taking over the future roles of the coach, managers, officials and leaders of the Olympic and Sports Movement of Pakistan. In these three days, athletes will also be interacting with the officials of the National Sports Federations and Pakistan Olympic Association.

The first of such seminar titled “Empowering Athletes” in November, 2020 was a huge success as it opened with a video message of the IOC President Thomas Bach emphasizing that the athletes are the heart of the Olympic Movement. Thereafter POA has organized athletes seminar in 2021 in which athletes from various sports were invited.

Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President POA will inaugurate the Seminar on 23rd December, 2022 and on the first day athletes would be presented the topics related to the Doping Controls and Rights and Responsibilities of the Athletes.
