Student Achievement: Silver-medal winner of International Collegiate Programming Competition

Karachi, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The IBA Karachi is pleased to announce that its students from the BS Computer Science program, Murtaza Kazmi (Team Lead), Ammar Lakho, and Kapil Kodwani have won the silver medal in the International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC), held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute.

The IBA team participated under the supervision of Dr. Imran Rauf, Assistant Professor, School of Mathematics and Computer Science. ICPC is considered among the oldest and most prestigious programming competitions, where the IBA students competed against more than 20 teams from all over Pakistan and succeeded with flying colours.

1. No candidate in any circumstances will be entertained with short of any of the documents mentioned under Instructions and Admission Schedule for Session 2021-22 on the Admissions Website.

2. It is further advised to arrive at Main Auditorium, MUET, Jamshoro well before the reporting time along with admission fee amounting Rs. 47,000/- for B.E/B.ARCH/B.CRP programs and Rs. 59,300/- for B.S programs.

3. Only one parent / guardian will be allowed to accompany with the candidate on the day of interview. The Candidates and parents are expected to follow the COVID-19 SOPs at all time. The University will not be responsible for COVID-19 infection to any of the candidates / parents / guardians appear for interview.

4. Extra candidates have been invited for interview to cover the absentee candidates keeping in view of the past practice.

MUET Faculty Members Secure Top Rank in Interspeech Challenge

Jamshoro, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):A team of researchers from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Pakistan, and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, participated in the Alzheimer’s Dementia Recognition from Spontaneous Speech (ADReSSo) challenge at Interspeech 2021. Interspeech is one of the prestigious conferences in speech communication and technology, in particular computational processing of speech. The challenge consisted of three subtasks, i.e. Alzheimer’s Dementia Classification, Mini-Mental State Examination Score Prediction, and Prediction of Cognitive Decline. The ADReSSo challenge received 26 system submissions from 15 different countries.

Members of Team MUET-RMIT include Dr. Zafi Sherhan Syed who works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering (MUET), Muhammad Shehram Shah Syed, an Assistant Professor from the Department of Software Engineering (MUET) and currently a doctoral researcher at RMIT, and Prof. Margaret Lech and Prof. Irena Pirogova, both of whom are Professors at the School of Engineering at RMIT.

The team secured top rank for the subtask on Prediction of Cognitive Decline with a mean-f1-score of 73.80%, with researchers from the University of Massachusetts Boston standing second with a score of 70.91%. Team MUET-RMIT’s proposed method stood second for the subtask on Alzheimer’s Dementia Classification with a mean-f1-score of 84.46% that is closely behind the score of 84.49% achieved by the team from University of Sheffield, who secured the first place.

Team MUET-RMIT stood third for the subtask on MMSE score prediction in which their proposed method achieved a root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of 4.35 compared to second placed team from Universidad de Buenos Aires who achieved an RMSE of 4.26, and the first placed team from the University of Massachusetts Boston whose method achieved an RMSE of 3.85.

In addition to this, Mr. Shehram was the recipient of a very generous travel grant from the International Speech Communication Association. Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro and Department of Telecommunication and Software Engineering congratulates Team MUET-RMIT on this achievement.

NFTP Graduation Ceremony at National Textile University, Faisalabad

Faisalabad, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Congratulations to all of our trainees enrolled at the National Textile University, Faisalabad on the successful completion of their courses and the conclusion of the first physical NFTP graduation ceremony that was recently held at National Textile University, Faisalabad. Dr. Asif Habib, Chairman of Computer Science Department, National Textile University graced the event along with Mr. Shahzad Arshad, Focal Person Administrator CS Department.

Meanwhile our Master Trainer Mr. Inaam ul Haq along with our Trainers from NTU, Faisalabad were also present on the occasion. Team NFTP was represented by Mr. Zulfiqar Jahangir and Mr. Mamoon Hamid at the event. All graduated students and top earners were invited on the occasion and were awarded their graduation certificates signalling the end of their training at the National Textile University, Faisalabad.

We wish all of these students the best of luck with their futures and hope that all the hard work put in by these students and their mentors continues to bear fruit in the future as well. We expect to see more and more students register with us across the country and develop the skills to master the art of freelancing and become a success and contribute towards a better developed nation.

IUB observed World Teacher’s Day 2021

Bahawalpur, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):A special seminar was held at the Department of Education, Islamia University of Bahawalpur on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Dean Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Akhtar Ali, Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain Chairman Department of Special Education and other teachers addressed the occasion. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar said that the destiny of the country and the nation depends on education.

The nations that valued teachers rose to prominence in the world. Knowledge-friendly societies today are reaching the heights of the sky thanks to the hard work and attention of teachers. World Teachers’ Day is a great opportunity to pay tribute to the nation’s architects. The role of the teacher in society needs to be made more effective and efficient. Islamia University Bahawalpur under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob has taken many steps for the betterment and welfare of teachers. Today we are gathered to pay tribute to our teachers.

Whatever we are today is because of our teacher. We have been able to study at Islamia University Bahawalpur because of our teacher. It is our good fortune and behind it is the tireless work of our teachers. We came to Islamia University of Bahawalpur to study and become a teacher.
