Life support training to the general public in mosques

Islamabad, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Under the ‘Lifesavers project’ of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA), doctors provided Basic Life Support (BLS) training in as many as 189 mosques in 40 cities of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Azad Kashmir on Saturday, 25th September 2021. The general public was taught about basic life support that can be provided for any victim of sudden cardiac or respiratory arrest and heart failure, especially where basic facilities are not available to save a precious life.

According to a press release issued by PIMA Centre on Saturday, thousands of people benefited from these BLS sessions. These training sessions happened at 84 places in Punjab, 42 in Sindh, 37 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 5 in Azad Kashmir. PIMA Female Wing also arranged these workshops for women and female students at 4 places each in Lahore and Islamabad; 3 each in Karachi, Peshawar and Rawalakot and 1 in Faisalabad.

PIMA experts told the audience that heart diseases have become the leading cause of death worldwide including Pakistan where according to the World Health Organization (WHO) data, an alarming increase has been seen in deaths due to heart attacks, heart failures and other cardiac ailments, resulting in a bewildering 46 deaths with every passing hour.

Three years ago, only 12 people were dying due to heart diseases per hour but only in a matter of three years, the figure has alarmingly increased fourfold and now 46 people are dying due to heart attacks in Pakistan. Many lives can be saved with simple Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Pakistan needs law experts with strong character: GCU VC

Lahore, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): An open house session for aspirants of admission to law degree program was held here at the Government College University Lahore under the auspices of its newly-established Allama Iqbal Law School. Eminent lawyer and Old Ravian Naeem Bokhari chaired the session which was also addressed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi.

In his inaugural address, VC Prof. Zaidi said the country needs law experts with strong character, so the University’s Allama Iqbal Law School would also focus on ethics, character building and personality development of law students besides imparting world-class education of local and international laws.

The Vice Chancellor said Mr. Bokhari has come back to his alma mater, i.e. the Government College (now University) Lahore, almost after 55 years, and the same was with eminent spiritual scholar and Old Ravian Prof. Ahmad Rafique Akhtar who visited GCU last week after 60 years.

Prof. Zaidi believed the interaction with these eminent scholars was highly crucial for the grooming of their students as they expose them to real-world life experiences, and students get to understand the insights and perspective of an expert of that field. In his Keynote address, Naeem Bokhari shared his life experiences with the young Ravians and aspirants of admission to law degree program, saying law is a subject relevant to our day-to-day life; and you must attain excellence in it.

He said that happiness and contentment is more important in life than success, money and fame. “Happiness is an attitude of travelling through life. “Difficulties would come but you should face with dignity,” he said. The eminent lawyer said “your life is made by the choices you make at the different stages.” He also believed that people pay for their bad deeds in this life before the afterlife.

He also shared the background incidents and meanings of different verses from the poetry of Munir Naizi, Nasir Kazmi, Habib Jalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Mr. Bokhari narrated different interesting incidents from his student life, and remembered the teachers of Government College Lahore who, he said, played a great role in his life. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor on initiating law degree program as well as other new programmes. He showed his pleasure that GC is in good hands.
