KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi General Secretary Arslan Khalid has issued a stern rebuke to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over its handling of the water crisis in Sindh, highlighting the alarming water shortages at key barrages in the province.
According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khalid criticized the provincial government's response to the historic 30 to 57 percent water shortage at the Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages, labeling it as evidence of the PPP's alleged ineffectiveness. He accused the ruling party, which has been in power in Sindh for decades, of neglecting the rights of the province's residents and farmers. Khalid further alleged that while the PPP engages in discussions with the federal government over budget matters, it fails to prioritize the critical issue of water scarcity.
Khalid described the recent assembly debate on water scarcity as mere political theater, suggesting it was an attempt to mislead the public. Despite the PPP's position in the federal government, Khalid claimed the party has not adequately protected Sindh's water resources and is misleading the public to cover its shortcomings. He emphasized the serious impact of the water shortage on Sindh's agriculture and its economic repercussions for farmers. Khalid warned that if the water allocations for barrages and canals are not addressed promptly, PTI, along with Sindh's citizens, will organize a large-scale protest against what he termed the PPP's "criminal silence."
