Quetta: The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, visited Quetta on June 4-5, 2026, to engage with key stakeholders in a bid to enhance higher education, research, quality assurance, and skills development in Balochistan. During his two-day visit, Dr. Akhtar met with the Governor and Chief Minister of Balochistan and held interactive sessions with faculty members and university leadership, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence and institutional capacity building.
According to University of Turbat, Dr. Akhtar was accompanied by the Vice Chancellors of prominent universities in the province and acknowledged the provincial government's efforts to tackle financial challenges faced by public universities. He reiterated HEC's dedication to equipping Balochistan's youth with contemporary knowledge and technological expertise. Dr. Akhtar also expressed his appreciation for the Governor's support in strengthening the province's higher education institutions.
Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat, briefed the HEC Chairman on the university’s achievements and ongoing initiatives. Dr. Akhtar assured further support through training and capacity-building workshops for academic and administrative staff in the next financial year. Recognizing the potential of Balochistan's students, he emphasized the importance of providing quality education and opportunities to enable them to contribute significantly to the country's development.
