Malir: The voter registration rate in Malir has been reported at 34% of its estimated 2025 population, falling significantly below the national ratio of 54%. This discrepancy highlights a pattern observed in major urban centers across Pakistan.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, these figures are derived from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025. They are cross-referenced against population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The estimated population for 2025, calculated using a 3.79% inter-censal annual growth rate, stands at 2,620,106 for Malir. This estimate is based on the census base population of 2,432,248. The registration rates reflect the number of registered voters divided by this estimated population.
Malir currently has 889,879 registered voters, comprising 498,575 males and 391,304 females. Male voter registration accounts for 36% of the estimated population, while female registration is at 32%. Nationally, Malir ranks 31st by population size but falls to 122nd in voter registration rate. Within Sindh, it ranks last among 30 districts.
The low registration rate is attributed to the inclusion of in-migrants in the census, who remain registered as voters in their origin districts. This inflates the population estimate without a corresponding increase in local voter rolls. Additionally, a gender gap persists, with female voters making up only 44% of the electorate, suggesting the need for targeted registration campaigns for women ahead of the next general elections.
