KARACHI: The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Altaf Shakoor, has called on the government to enhance Karachi's urban management by integrating technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into its systems. He emphasized that the megacity's complexities require more than conventional methods to improve aspects like safety, mobility, and civic services.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor highlighted the effectiveness of technology in cities like London, New York, and several major Chinese cities, which have successfully incorporated surveillance and AI for urban management. He urged Karachi to learn from these examples, tailoring technological solutions to local needs while ensuring compliance with Pakistani law and respect for citizens' rights and privacy.

Shakoor pointed to the Safe City Project as a vital starting point, advocating for a modern network of cameras and AI technologies to enhance crime prevention, emergency response, and traffic management. He also proposed using technology to transform civic problem management through real-time data and AI analysis, which could alert relevant departments to address issues proactively.

Furthermore, Shakoor suggested that a digital civic platform could empower citizens to report problems and track resolutions, enhancing accountability and transparency in governance. He envisioned an integrated Smart Karachi platform, combining various data sources and AI analysis, to anticipate and manage urban challenges effectively.

Shakoor concluded that technology should not replace human governance but rather augment it, allowing Karachi to adapt global lessons intelligently and make the city safer, more mobile, and better managed.
