Kech’s Voter Registration Rate Significantly Below National Average

Kech: Only 25% of Kech's population is registered to vote, a figure significantly below the national average of 54%, according to recent district-wise electoral roll statistics from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). This data, released on December 30, 2025, highlights a persistent gap in voter registration within the district.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, Kech's voter registration rate is derived from population estimates based on the 2023 Digital Census. The district’s estimated population for 2025 is 1,117,906, calculated using a 2.65% annual growth rate from the 2023 census base. The district has 283,333 registered voters, with 153,908 males and 129,425 females. Males represent 54.3% of the registered voters, while females account for 45.7%. This results in Kech ranking 128th nationally and 29th within Balochistan in terms of voter registration rates.

Several factors contribute to Kech's low registration rates, including geographic remoteness, which limits access to NADRA documentation centers and ECP registration facilities. Additionally, nomadic and semi-nomadic communities face challenges in aligning their census enumeration locations with their CNIC addresses, leading to discrepancies in voter rolls. The high inter-censal population growth rate also means a substantial portion of the population is under 18 years of age and thus ineligible to register.

The gender gap in voter registration is notable, with female voters making up 45.7% of the electorate, highlighting an 8.6% disparity. Sustained efforts by NADRA and ECP are deemed essential to increase registration rates in Kech, particularly among women.
