Zardari Emphasizes Literacy as Key to National Progress

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari marked International Literacy Day with a message underscoring the pivotal role of literacy in both personal and national development. In his address, he highlighted literacy not just as a basic skill but as a fundamental human right that enhances cognitive development and dignity.

Zardari stressed that literacy empowers individuals, providing them with confidence and a voice in society. It serves as a gateway to numerous opportunities, contributing to personal growth and social progress. For Pakistan, he noted, literacy is essential for nation-building, reducing poverty, fostering innovation, and strengthening democracy.

Emphasizing the importance of women’s education, Zardari noted that educating women translates into benefits for families and communities. He asserted that no nation could reach its full potential if half of its population is left behind, advocating for literacy and education for women as a means to achieve a more equitable society.

The Pakistani government, Zardari affirmed, is committed to universal literacy through improved public policies, investments in quality education, digital innovations, and community involvement. By supporting both formal and non-formal education systems, the government aims to provide learning opportunities for all, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic status.

Zardari called for a collective effort from families, communities, civil society, media, and the private sector to nurture a culture of lifelong learning. He urged all Pakistanis to reaffirm their commitment to making education a shared national asset.

The President concluded his message with a vision of a Pakistan where literacy is universal, education is inclusive, and knowledge is accessible to all, hoping for a society that empowers its citizens towards peace and prosperity.
