UVAS Hosts Seminar and Poster Competition on HIV Awareness


Lahore, The Institute of Microbiology at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, in collaboration with the Punjab Aids Control Programme, organized a seminar and poster competition to raise awareness about HIV. The event, themed “Beyond the Myth: Understanding the Realities of HIV,” was held at the UVAS City Campus.



According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the seminar aimed to dispel myths surrounding HIV and educate the public on various aspects of the disease, including symptoms, risk factors, treatment, diagnosis, and prevention methods. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus, along with other dignitaries, presided over the concluding ceremony where winners of the poster competition were awarded cash prizes and organizers received shields for their contributions.



In the poster contest, students showcased their creativity and understanding of HIV-related issues. Farwah from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology clinched the first position, Bakhtawar Khan secured second, while Umme Kalsoom earned third place.



Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus commended the organizers for addressing such a critical public health topic and stressed the importance of awareness programs in combating the spread of HIV. During the event, Prof Dr. Aftab Anjum announced the Vice-Chancellor’s approval for the establishment of the Society for Microbiology at UVAS, a student society aimed at fostering academic and practical knowledge of microbiology among students.



The seminar and competition at UVAS highlight the university’s proactive approach to public health education and its role in fostering a better understanding of global health challenges among the academic community and beyond.
