Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore hosted a meeting with Mr. Farrukh Amil, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO Pakistan), Deputy Director Public Relations Officer Mr. Munir Hussain, and PS Chairman IPO Mr. Hasnain. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad led the meeting, attended by senior UVAS faculty and administrative officers.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mr. Farrukh Amil emphasized the importance of guiding students and researchers in innovation and the use of intellectual property rights during the meeting. He praised UVAS for its efforts in raising awareness about obtaining patents and encouraged faculty members to also focus on copyright and trademark registration. Mr. Amil stressed the need for innovative business competitions in universities to foster entrepreneurship and the adoption of agricultural technology to increase food production.
Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad highlighted UVAS’s achievements, including its ranking among the top 801-1000 universities worldwide and third in Punjab’s public sector, Time Higher Education World University Rankings. He noted UVAS’s significant achievement in obtaining a drug manufacturing license and its registration from DRAP for Foot and Mouth vaccine production. He mentioned that two UVAS faculty members have been awarded national patents, and ten more applications are pending. Dr. Ahmad also spoke about the digitization of UVAS clinics and the university’s focus on enhancing students’ technical, soft, and communication skills. He suggested integrating a hyperlink to IPO on the UVAS website to assist researchers in registering their works.
The visit concluded with Mr. Amil and Prof Dr. Ahmad touring various sections of the UVAS Pet Center, where they acknowledged the center’s services and treatment facilities for pets.
