Under-16 Hockey and Mat Wrestling Trials Underway for Talent Hunt Programme

Lahore, 17 Oct 2023:Trials for under-16 hockey and mat wrestling are currently in progress at district and divisional levels across the province as part of the Talent Hunt Programme, directed by Dr. Asif Tufail, Director General of Sports Board Punjab. On Monday, the under-16 mat wrestling and hockey trials were conducted at the Coaching Center and National Hockey Stadium Pitch-2, respectively. This information was provided by the Sports Board Punjab.

Notably, Divisional Sports Officer Lahore Tariq Khanzada, District Sports Officer Lahore Tanveer Shah, wrestling coach Fareed Ali, and Lahore Wrestling Association official Mehr Akram alias Kala Pehlwan attended the mat wrestling trials. Meanwhile, the U-16 hockey trials saw the presence of Divisional Sports Officer Lahore Tariq Khanzada, among other officials. A significant turnout was observed, with 40 under-16 wrestlers from all districts of the Lahore division participating in the wrestling trials, and a similar number from the U-16 hockey players participating in the hockey trials. The trials, spanning all nine divisions of the province, have attracted thousands of players in three categories: school, club, and open. This initiative is an integral part of Sports Board Punjab’s transformative 2-year Annual Sports Calendar Programme.
