Dubai, 17 Oct 2023:Afghanistan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during Afghanistan’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup league match against England in Delhi last Sunday. The breach pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
Gurbaz was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. As a result, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. This is Gurbaz’s first offence within a 24-month timeframe.
The specific incident took place during the 19th over of Afghanistan’s batting innings. Following his dismissal, Gurbaz expressed his frustration by hitting his bat against the boundary rope and a chair.
The player acknowledged the offence and agreed to the penalty proposed by Jeff Crowe from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, rendering a formal hearing unnecessary.
The charge was brought forward by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, along with third umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Paul Wilson.
For Level 1 infringements, the penalties range from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, along with the imposition of one or two demerit points.
Notes for Editors:
Should a player accumulate four or more demerit points within two years, these points transform into suspension points, resulting in a ban.
Acquiring two suspension points translates into a ban from one Test match or two One Day Internationals (ODIs) or two T20 International matches, based on whichever format is upcoming for the said player. The International Cricket Council provided this information.
Demerit points remain on a player’s or player support personnel’s disciplinary record for 24 months, after which they are removed.
