Lahore, The Faculty of Languages and Literature at the University of Central Punjab has recently concluded a field tour for its final year BS English Language and Literature students, visiting significant cultural and historical sites across northern Pakistan.
According to University of Central Punjab, the tour included stops in Abbottabad, Oughi, Mansehra, and Taxila, providing students with a hands-on learning experience about heritage preservation and language revitalization. Led by Dr. Tahir Saleem, Associate Head of the Faculty, along with Mr. Nohaiz Mehmood, Faculty Industry Liaison Officer, and Ms. Fatima Urooj, Program Coordinator ILO, the group engaged in a series of educational activities and discussions.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Taxila Museum, where students learned about ongoing efforts to preserve historical artifacts. At Army Burn Hall College in Abbottabad, discussions focused on reviving the Mankyali language, a lesser-known local language, with the Director expressing interest in formal collaborations through an MOU and offering fully funded teacher training workshops. The college also showed interest in hiring UCP English department graduates.
In Guldana Village, Oughi, the students conducted detailed research on the Mankyali language, examining its vocabulary and sentence structures to contribute to its preservation and revival. This tour not only enriched the students’ academic experience but also opened up potential job opportunities and collaborative ventures.
