Balochistan, February 28, 2023 (PPI-OT):An online session was jointly organized by the National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF), and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in collaboration with the ORIC-University of Turbat in order to facilitate the students and faculty members of Turbat University in navigating the SBP EasyData Portal.

Ms. Mahwish Shozab Deputy Director of, the Data Services and Innovation Department, SBP, along with Ms. Hira Ghaffar, Deputy Director of, the Economic Policy Review Department, SBP shared key insights on the recently launched data portal of SBP. They briefly discussed the primary and secondary functions of SBP and highlighted the importance of economic and financial data collection and its public dissemination around the globe.

The resource persons helped the participants of the session to use the unique features and key built-in functionalities in the SBP portal to promote data analysis for their academic purpose.

Turbat, February 22, 2023 (PPI-OT):A session on “Karwan-e-Tijarat” was held on 15th February 2023 at the video conference room of Turbat University to promote an entrepreneurial and start-up business mind-set among the students of the University of Turbat (UoT). Dr. Ghulam Jan, Director ORIC, University of Turbat welcomed the guests who came from various industries and appreciated them for visiting Turbat University and giving a session on the entrepreneurial mind-set.

Director ORIC said that UoT organizes such sessions with industry leaders, who guide our students and inspire them to launch their own business ventures in the future to become job creators rather than job seekers. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the guests for interacting with the faculty and the students of the university. During the session, the guest speakers and industry leaders shared their expertise and experiences with the faculty and students through discussion and questions and answers.

Turbat, February 21, 2023 (PPI-OT):The sports week 2023 kicked off at the University of Turbat (UoT) with an inaugural ceremony, which was held at the university gymnasium on 20th February 2023. After cutting the ribbon, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor, UoT along with university officials met the players of different games and emphasized them to actively take part in the week-long sports activities to learn lessons of unity, healthy competition, teamwork, self-confidence, patience, and self-discipline.

Pro Vice-Chancellor said that these sports activities are aimed at promoting healthy competition and physical fitness among students and employees of the university. He added that such events will provide ample opportunity for male and female students to showcase their talents and lead a healthy and happy life in a competitive and challenging environment.

He pledged that the university administration, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice Chancellor will continue to support and further strengthen the sports directorate for the promotion of extra-curricular activities at the university. He appreciated the efforts of Mazhar Gichki, the Director of Sports, and his team for organizing sports activities every year with zeal and success. Ganguzar Baloch, UoT’s registrar, deans, directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and a large number of players and students attended the opening ceremony.

Various indoor and outdoor games will be played during week-long sports activities, which include cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, musical chair, lemon spoon, carom board, sack race, long jump, chess, tug of war, endorse race of three kilometres, two hundred meter race, shooting ball, Ludo, word scrabble, digital game, pick up and run, dart, slow motorcycle race, and other local and traditional games.

Turbat, February 19, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC), University of Turbat (UoT) has organized a literary session at IBLC on 16th February 2023 in the honour of Dr. Wahid Bakhsh Buzdar, eminent researcher of Balochi language and literature and Professor at Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, Allah Bakhsh Buzdar, eminent poet of Balochi modern poetry, and Tabassum Mazari.

The participants of the session discussed the history of Baloch and Balochi language and literature in detail. The session was attended by Professor Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities and Director of IBLC, Amjid Habib, Head of English Department, UoT, Waja Abdullah Baloch, former Director of Culture Department, GoB, Mumtaz Yusuf, former chairman, Balochi Academy, faculty members and students of English Department and IBLC, and poets and writers of Balochi language.

On this occasion, Allah Bakhsh Buzdar and Tabassum Mazari entertained the students with their beautiful poems in the Koh-e-Sulaimani dialect and received a round of applause from the audience. At the end of the program, Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch thanked the guests for coming to Turbat University and participating in the academic and literary session with the teachers and students of IBLC and the Department of English.

Turbat, February 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):A lecture session on “Social and Political Structure of Baloch Society” was organized by the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Turbat (UoT) on 16th February 2023. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, and attended by an overwhelming number of faculty members, and students from the Political Science and Sociology Departments.

The guest speakers including Dr. Shah Mohammad Marri and Dr. Farooq Baloch, intellectuals, and historians shed light on the Social and Political structure of Baloch Society. Dr. Shah Muhammad Marri has begun his talk by providing an overview of the historical context of Balochistan and its society. He highlighted the province’s strategic location, diverse ethnic and linguistic groups, and complex tribal affiliations.

Dr. Marri also discussed contemporary challenges such as issues of urbanization, tribal issues, and certain intellectual gaps in Balochistan. Dr. Farooq Baloch discussed the role of various historical powers in shaping the history, culture, language, and socio-political fabrics of Baloch society.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor thanked the guest speakers for having an informative session with the faculty members and students of the Political Science and Sociology Departments. Dr. Muhammad Yaseen, Chairman, of the Sociology Department, and Jamil Ahmed, Chairman of, the Political Science Department were also present on the occasion.

Turbat, February 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Turbat organized an interactive session on “Education Streaming: A Roadmap towards Quality Education” at Education Department on 16th February 2023.

The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, and attended by faculty members and students in large numbers. Besides, the significance of the education streaming as a means of providing quality education to students, the resource person of the session, Atique Ur Rehman also informed the participants about the current elementary educational landscape of Balochistan.

Atique Ur Rehman, an Education Management Specialist who has worked with a variety of national and international organizations, is currently working with a World Bank-funded project PMIU – Government of Punjab as an ECE Curriculum Specialist.

The need for collaborative efforts by all stakeholders was emphasized during the session for improving the early grade education system, and ensuring quality education in Balochistan. During the session, Atiq Ur Rehman has given an overview of the current challenges faced by the education sector in Balochistan, and the way forward how to overcome these challenges. While sharing his professional learning experiences in the field of early-grade education, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to bridge the gap between policies and implementation, curriculum, and textbooks.

He lauded the graduates of the Education Department as change agents in the field of school education in Balochistan. Expressing gratitude to the resource person for sharing valuable insights with the students, the Dean Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch termed the session an enlightening and instructive experience for the students of the Education Department. The participants made the session highly interactive by asking relevant questions, which were answered professionally and with academic prowess by the resource person.
