Three-Day International Conference on Climate Change and Traditional Agriculture pattern in Pakistan: Implications and Solutions continued on Second Day 

Khairpur, October 27, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Three-Day International Conference on Climate Change and Traditional Agriculture Pattern in Pakistan: Implications and Solutions organized by the Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in collaboration with Sindh Higher Education Commission, Karachi, Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited and Roots for Equity continued on second day. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided the session of second day and also interacted with the scholars.

The renowned national and international scholars Dr. Marco Mandela, Professor, Barcelona University, Spain, Dr. Stefano Biagetti, Professor, Barcelona University Spain, Dr. Carolina Jimenez, Dr. Oscar Parque from Germany, Dr. Ishfaque Ahmed from Turkey, Dr. Azra Talat Syed, Dr. Lubna Ghazal, Dr. Noor Hussain Chandio, Dr. Sanaullah Panezai, Mr. Ayaz Latif Sial, Dr. Muhammad Dawood, Dr. Ghani Rehman, Dr. Syed Ali Asad Naqvi, Dr. Liaquat Ali Wassan, Dr. Shakeel Mehmood, Dr. Shujat Ali Malik, Mr. Saddam Hussain, Ms. Fatima Salman Awan, Ms. Aiman Nisar, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Ms. Sidra Noor, Mr. Nabi Bux, Ms. Shehla Bano, Ms. Ayesha Pathan, Dr. Sanaullah Soomro, Mr. Nisar Khand and others presented their research papers.

In their research papers, they highlighted the consequences of climate change on growth and productivity of date palm in the study area. The influence of climate change and land use on soil erosion has been identified as severe threat for human sustainability. They said Pakistan has history of large earthquakes and its various regions are highly seismic risk due to the presence of numerous active faults. The climate change has resulted in the receding of glaciers and inducted the glaciers and Lake Outburst floods. Globally the frequency and magnitude increased due to recent climatic variability.

They said that soil erosion is a major environmental problem that is increasing year by year. It requires preventing political, economic and technical actions. They said that rapid urban growth is the component which has scribed to loss of agriculture land. They said that climate change changes the trend of stream flow in the cold regions and it is urgent to quantify its impact on the loss of glacier ice and water resources. They said that the mangroves make highly protective echo system. This echo system provides habitat to various wildlife. It is the need of the time to protect the mangroves fields. They said that the global climate change is a posing serious threat to the world’s agriculture that increased the risk of food security.

The Scholars said that the agriculture is strongly influenced by weather and climate while farmers are often flexible in dealing with the weather. Climate change has directly impact on the agriculture, fertile agriculture. Land is going to converting into barren land slowly and GDP rate of country is not increasing. The climate change has adverse consequences to water scarcity and droughts.

They recommended that the pattern of crops may be changed. The short-term crops and new seed varieties may be introduced. The proper use of water is very essential. The loan facilities for agriculture may be granted. The use of energy judiciously, the green energy may be adopted. The Government may take cognitive steps to control on the adverse effects of climate change. Dr. Noor Hussain Chandio, Incharge Department of Geography briefed the audience about the academic and research activities of the Department. A large numbers of research scholars and students attended the sessions.

Two-Day Training Workshop on Critical Reading and Writing concluded

Khairpur, October 09, 2021 (PPI-OT): A Two-Day Training Workshop on Critical Reading and Writing organized by the Bhittai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA), Khairpur, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Pakistan in collaboration with Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur and Inter-University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) concluded. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and Dr. Jochen Hippler from FES Pakistan inaugurated the workshop.

The students from members institutions of IUCPSS including Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Ripha University, Rawalpindi, Khuwaja Fareed University, Rahim Yar Khan, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Women University, Peshawar, Mir Chakar Khan Rind University, Sibbi, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology, Karachi and F.C College University, Lahore and host Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur participated in the workshop.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that critical reading and writing reflects one’s intellectual vision on any subject. This workshop has provided an ample opportunity to students to produce an intellectual piece of writing. Dr. Ibupoto remarked that Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur has expanded in terms of infrastructure and quality education. We not only provide students with excellent educational opportunities but also groom their personalities.

Dr. Jochen Hippler from FES remarked that the purpose of this academic activity was to engage students in research based activities and encourage them for academic writings. The Resource Persons of Training Workshop were Dr. Jochen Hippler and Dr. Fatima Kamali from Quaid-e-Azam University School of Politics and International Relations. The Concluding Ceremony of the Workshop was held. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided over the ceremony while Mr. Raja Tarqiue Hussain Chandio, Deputy Commissioner, Khairpur was the chief guest. Mr. Murtaza Noor, National Coordinator IUCPSS, Dr. Jochen Hippler and Mr. Mukhtiar Malik, Renowned Poet and Broadcaster were the guests of honour.

Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said it is matter of high pleasure and rejoice for me to welcome the galaxy of future scholars. He said I am really proud of students of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur who authored a book Peace Now and Forever. It is a good piece of edition for Central Library as well as for the readers of the world. We are on the path of development since we have set dynamic and energetic team. Dr. Ibupoto commended the efforts of IUCPSS, BSWA, FES Pakistan and the team of the SALU for organizing this result-oriented workshop. The Vice Chancellor also appreciated the keen interest of Deputy Commissioner, Khairpur in the academic dialogue.

Mr. Raja Tarqiue Hussain Chandio said that the glimpses and the title of the book are excellent. He said I am optimistic that peace will stay forever. Sindh has accepted different cultures. This is the land of Sufi Saints so we are broad minded. Mr. Chandio appreciated the efforts of Dr. Khalil Ibupoto who is working hard day and night for the development of the University.

Dr. Jochen Hippler extended thanks to teachers who guided the students to accomplish their research publication in the advent of COVID-19. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Murtaza Noor highlighted the importance of effective engagements of students at University campuses through promoting values of peace, tolerance and co-existence. In this regard, first ever student societies centre has been established at SALU.

Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages spoke as keynote speaker. He said that the books authored by the students reflect their vision and commitment with the education and research. We are proud that our students possess potential and curiosity for the academic pursuit. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Mr. Mureed Hussain Ibupoto, Registrar, Mr. Mukhtiar Malik, Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar, Mr. Hassan Shaikh, Niklas Joschua Kemper FES, Pakistan, Syed Kaneez Zehra Rashdi, Mr. Abdullah Phulpoto, Mr. Muhammad Ali Lashari and Mr. Khadim Hussain Mirani also spoke on this occasion.

Mr. Abdullah Dayo, Program Manager, FES Pakistan moderated the session. Meanwhile, launching of YouTube Channel “The Campus Life in Pakistan was also held. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto and Mr. Raja Tarqiue Hussain Chandio launched the YouTube channel. The screening of video documentary produced by the students of University was also telecasted. Certificates, Shields and Traditional Gifts were presented to the participants and guests. The ceremony was followed by Sufi Music performed by the Sufi Singers of the Sachal Sarmast Shrine. A large number of Civil Society Activists, Faculty Members and Social Activists attended the ceremony.

World Teachers Day celebrated

Khairpur, October 09, 2021 (PPI-OT): World Teachers Day Jointly Organised Rotary Club of Karachi Creek and Rotary Club Khairpur Bhittai in Collaboration with Students Advancement Fund Endowment (SAFE), Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur in the Conference Hall of Department of Teachers Education. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik, Dean Faculty of Law, Rtn. Captain (Retd.) Izhar Hussain Baig President Rotary Club of Karachi Creek and Mr. Mazhar Khan Jatoi, Regional Head Telenor Bank Sukkur Region were distinguished guests of Honour.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto greeted Rotary Leadership of Karachi Creek and Khairpur Bhittai for celebrating the much-needed obligatory day (World Teachers Day). He specially thanked Rotary Club of Karachi Creek for providing moral and material support to Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur. He stressed more viable partnership and joint ventures could be practically streamlined resonating with the matching vision of University and Rotary.

A series of virtual and non-virtual lecture would be started and an MoU would be inked very soon. Dr. Ibupoto remarked that teachers are the real leaders of the nation who are contributing positively for the character building and personality development of the students. Rtn. Sarfaraz Ali Korejo, Charter President of Rotary Club Khairpur Bhittai and Executive Director SAFE welcomed the guests and briefed about the theme of day. He ensured every possible help and support for community under the joint ventures of Rotary International and Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.

Talking at the occasion Captain (Retd.) Izhar Hussain Baig highly appreciated the efforts of the leadership of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and reiterated the will of his club for partnering more community programmes with Khairpur Bhittai and Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur.
