Swat: The voter registration rate in Swat has reached 56% of its estimated 2025 population, surpassing the national registration rate of 54%. This data highlights Swat's position as an area with a higher than average voter engagement.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, these statistics were derived from district-wise electoral roll data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025. The figures were cross-referenced with population estimates based on the 2023 Digital Census. The population estimate for 2025 was calculated using a 2.57% inter-censal annual growth rate applied to Swat's base population of 2,687,384, resulting in an estimated population of 2,827,291. Voter registration rates were determined by dividing the number of registered voters by this estimated population.
In Swat, there are 1.6 million registered voters, with 858,467 males and 723,444 females. The registration rate among males is 59%, while for females, it stands at 52%. Swat ranks 27th out of 136 districts in Pakistan by population size and is represented by three Members of the National Assembly. In terms of voter registration rate, Swat is ranked 44th nationally and 19th out of 35 districts within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Swat's voter registration rate surpasses the national average due to specific rules applied during Pakistan's 2023 Digital Census. Notably, household members who were absent for more than six months were not counted at their home address, and those living elsewhere were recorded at their current residence. This has resulted in many of Swat's permanent residents, who have migrated to urban centers or abroad for work, being enumerated at their destinations rather than in Swat. Despite this, they remain registered as voters in Swat based on their permanent CNIC address, leading to a smaller population denominator and an above-average voter registration ratio.
Female voters account for 45.7% of Swat's registered electorate, indicating a gender gap of 8.5%. Despite the district's overall strong registration rate, efforts to achieve equitable female voter registration continue to be important.
