Punjab University VC Highlights Challenges in Equipping Youth with Skills Amid New Initiatives

Lahore, The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, emphasized the significant challenge universities face in equipping a growing youth population with necessary skills amidst evolving industry trends. His remarks were made during an awareness seminar on Thursday, organized by the Transport and Masstransit Department, Government of the Punjab, and the Bank of Punjab, focusing on a new motorbike provision initiative for students.

According to University of The Punjab, the event highlighted various government efforts to support student mobility and access to education, including the Chief Minister’s Youth Initiative which provides motorbikes to students. The seminar took place at the PU Institute of Education and Research’s Waheed Shaheed Hall and was attended by notable figures such as Secretary Transport Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, Registrar Dr. Ahmad Islam, and other officials from the Punjab Higher Education Commission and Punjab Information Technology Board.

Prof. Dr. Mahmood lauded the government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing student welfare, including the distribution of laptops, free internet access, and the newly introduced e-bike scheme, which he noted as particularly beneficial given the university’s growing need for more student transport solutions. He highlighted the importance of such schemes in aiding especially female students to overcome transport challenges.

Secretary Transport Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi also spoke at the seminar, reinforcing the notion that young students are the future of Pakistan and deserve every opportunity to access quality education easily. He elaborated on the government’s vision of making these initiatives interest-free and student-friendly to foster educational attainment and encourage the youth to contribute to national development.
