Punjab University Partners with Kaarvan Crafts Foundation to Boost Women’s Digital Skills

LAHORE: Punjab University and Kaarvan Crafts Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the “Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment” project, supported by UN Women, aimed at enhancing digital skills and economic opportunities for women in Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad.

The signing ceremony took place at the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University in the presence of key figures, including PU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, KCF CEO Danish Jabbar Khan, Director of External Linkages Dr. Yamina Salman, and Chairperson of the Department of Digital Media Dr. Savera Shami.

The agreement focuses on formalizing cooperation between the two entities to deliver digital skills training, mentorship, and the establishment of multipurpose digital learning hubs, known as Tech Villages. The initiative is targeted at young women aged 18 to 35, with the aim of improving their employment prospects through digital literacy, software development, and data analytics training.

The project also includes a structured mentorship program, linking students with industry professionals to foster academic, institutional, and labor market connections for women’s digital employment. The agreement underscores the commitment to long-term sustainability and institutional ownership of the project’s outcomes.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating that it will play a crucial role in empowering women economically by equipping them with essential digital skills.
