Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the initiation of Match Referees Regional Induction Courses, a program designed to develop a pool of qualified match referees across all Regional Cricket Associations. This initiative aims to meet the operational needs of domestic cricket, identify emerging talent in match refereeing, and establish regional panels by inducting new, qualified individuals, preferably former cricketers.
The program serves as an entry point for individuals aspiring to pursue a professional career as a match referee in Pakistan cricket. Eligible candidates must be between 30 and 45 years old at the time of application. Qualifications include being a PCB Panel Umpire with a minimum of two years of experience and a BA degree, or a former first-class cricketer with 50 matches and an Intermediate education. International cricketers and non-first-class candidates with 16 years of education are also eligible.
Candidates must be proficient in written English and possess skills in leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and report writing. A working knowledge of MS Office and basic IT tools is required, along with physical fitness to perform refereeing duties, including travel.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a registration fee of PKR 10,000 via Pay Order or Demand Draft in favor of the PCB. While food and refreshments will be provided during the course, participants will bear travel, lodging, and related expenses.
The selection process includes a written test conducted in person after course completion, followed by an interview assessing knowledge of the laws, communication, and interpersonal skills.
This initiative by the PCB underscores its commitment to strengthening the infrastructure of cricket officiating in Pakistan, ensuring a robust framework for the development of match referees at the regional level.
